Skilled Dentures & Partial Dentures in Fairfield, CA

Patients experiencing missing teeth can develop other, more serious conditions that affect nearby oral structures and overall health. Solano Dental Group offers several forms of treatment that address missing teeth while taking the patient’s needs into account. Dentures are great for replacing a section or full arc of teeth using an implant, gums, or nearby healthy teeth for stability.  Contact our office to see if dentures are right for you.

A denture is a removable dental appliance and a replacement for missing teeth and surrounding tissue.  They are made to closely resemble your natural teeth and may even enhance your smile.

There are two types of dentures - complete and partial dentures.  Complete dentures are used when all of the teeth are missing, while partial dentures are used when some natural teeth remain.  A partial denture not only fills in the spaces created by missing teeth, it prevents other teeth from shifting.

A complete denture can be either “conventional” or “immediate.”  A conventional type is made after the teeth have been removed and the gum tissue has healed (usually takes 4 to 6 weeks).  During this time, the patient will go without teeth.  Immediate dentures are made in advance and immediately placed after the teeth are removed, thus preventing the patient from having to be without teeth during the healing process.  Once the tissues shrink and heal, adjustments will have to be made.

Dentures are very durable appliances and will last many years but may have to be remade, repaired, or readjusted due to normal wear.

Reasons for dentures:

  • Complete Denture - Loss of all teeth in an arch.
  • Partial Denture - Loss of several teeth in an arch.
  • Enhancing smile and facial tissues.
  • Improving chewing, speech, and digestion.

What does getting dentures involve?

The process of getting dentures requires several appointments, usually over a period of several weeks.  Highly accurate impressions (molds) and measurements are taken and used to create your custom denture.  Several “try-in” appointments may be necessary to ensure proper shape, color, and fit.  At the final appointment, your dentist will precisely adjust and place the completed denture, ensuring a natural and comfortable fit.

It is normal to experience increased saliva flow, some soreness, and possible speech and chewing difficulty, however this will subside as your muscles and tissues get used to the new dentures.

You will be given care instructions for your new dentures.  Proper cleaning of your new dental appliance, good oral hygiene, and regular dental visits will aid in the life of your new dentures.

Partial Dentures

Also called removable partial dentures, this version of teeth replacement can be made from a variety of materials. They are built around a metal framework or a more natural-colored frame featuring connectors for a more seamless appearance. Partials replace a section of teeth with a detachable appliance and require daily cleaning to maintain a healthy and attractive smile. Some partial dentures require an adjustment period, but are effective at restoring functionality and can be relined for a more pleasant fit.

Full Dentures

A full set of teeth allows for a proper bite and a confident smile. Full dentures are recommended by our doctors when all teeth are missing. Both top and bottom arcs are configured to allow for easier speech, eating, and general comfort. Each night they should be removed to allow your gums and oral structures to rest.

Implant-supported Dentures

Fixed dentures refer to denture appliances anchored by a dental implant post. The posts are placed into your jawbone to replicate the roots of natural teeth. Both partials and full sets of replacement teeth can be further stabilized by an implant post and limit issues like slippage and the need for an adhesive application. Our office consists of a team of dental experts that review any previous dental work such as an implant or denture to determine what requires replacement for your most optimal smile.

Dangers of Neglecting Teeth Replacement

Missing teeth are an issue that must be dealt with sooner rather than later. Decreased support from adjacent teeth can lead to shifting of other teeth towards the gap and diminished jawbone density. Another common issue with missing teeth is indigestion, caused by larger chunks of food that have not been adequately chewed. Our high-quality dentures present an affordable and convenient solution personalized to your exact oral structure, working to prevent more complicated problems in the future.
